1. Be sure you have a x16 PCIe graphics slot on motherboard and NOT an AGP slot (common in older motherboards).
2. Be sure your power supply has 18 amps or higher on its +12V rail. Check on its sticker markings.
3. Insert the card and connect the PCIe power connector. The card usually comes with an adapter in case your power supply has no PCIe power connector.
4. Connect your monitor to the 9600GT then power up PC. If you were previously using integrated graphics, it will be automatically disabled.
5. When Windows open the desktop, it would usually indicate that a new hardware was detected and ask you to install the driver. The driver is in the CD that comes w/ the 9600GT. Install the driver.
You shouldn’t need to worry about it fitting. That’s only the 9800 GX2.
You open your machine and find the PCI-e slot. Should be the closest one to the CPU. You hold the card carefully and apply steady pressure as you push it into the slot. Make sure it’s not crooked.
Then you screw in the screw near where the plug sticks out the back of the case. Then you hook up a power cable to the opposite end of the card, inside the case. The power cable comes directly from your power supply. If the plug is not the right shape, there should be an adapter in the video card’s box.
